Scrutiny launches review of services for disabled children and young people 11/10/2010

A review has been launched in Hackney to help improve the quality of local services available to disabled children and young people.
The Children and Young People Scrutiny Commission will be looking into what access disabled children and young people have to key local services and whether any improvements can be made to make it easier to use these services.
As part of the review, the commission is also going to be examining the current level of support available to the parents and carers of disabled children and young people, and whether the services on offer from partner organisations are suitable and accessible.
Chair of the Children and Young People Scrutiny Commission, Councillor Gulay Icoz, said: "What we really need to address with this review is whether disabled children and young people from all communities in the borough have access to the many excellent services currently on offer across Hackney.
"As part of this review, we will be looking at a range of essential local services including leisure centres, libraries and parks to see if they are meeting the needs of our disabled children and young people.  If we do find there are any barriers which are preventing them from taking part in any leisure, cultural or development opportunities, we will be making recommendations to improve the way these are provided."
Commission members will be talking to parents through the Hackney Families Together Forum and other groups to get views on how services and service accessibility can be improved for disabled children and young people.
The Children and Young People Scrutiny Commission is very keen to hear parents' views about how services in Hackney can be improved for disabled children and young people. They should contact 020 8356 3441 or email: scrutiny@hackney.gov.uk before Monday, 18 October 2010.
The Commission is also encouraging local residents to attend the next meeting of the Children and Young People Scrutiny Commission on Monday, 11 October 2010 from 7.00pm in Hackney Town Hall. At this meeting, a wide range of representatives will be giving evidence to the commission about how services can be improved.
A full report with recommendations of the services for disabled children review is due to be published in January 2011

Why do you like Hackney?

Well i like Hackney because its such a diverse culture of people, food and things to do! sometimes its like a treasure trove, there are so many 'diamonds in the rough'!

I also like Hackney because its near the city which means its extra easy to get home or go out at night! Anyways, enjoy!!
